Welcome to the Mekong Delta!
The Mekong Delta is one of the largest in the world, discharging waters from the 4500 km long river into the South China Sea.
It is Vietnam's "rice basket" responsible for much of the rice that makes Vietnam the world's second largest (after Thailand) exporter.
Densely populated, the Delta offers many exciting opportunities for travelers, including canal trips, overnight stays, and floating markets.
Delta tours are easily arranged from your hotel, but may be significantly cheaper if you book from a travel agency along Saigon's Pham Ngu Lao Street.
Travelers have rated Delta Adventure Tours among the best, with air con buses, lunches, and informative guides.
Among the commonly offered tour options are:
One day tour, leaving Saigon at 8 am and returning to Saigon at 6 pm.
These may include floating markets, boat-building villages, coconut candy factories, and lunch at a longan orchard.
Boat trips through the canals are marvelous.
Four day delta tour, with one night home stay.
This includes a rowed boat (your guides do the actual rowing) to floating markets, and visits to villages.
Options include leaving the tour, and taking a boat to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, or extending the tour to include a trip to the beautiful beaches on Phu Quoc Island.
Other tours are offered, with many options.
Delta Adventure is not the only tour company, but is one of the best.
